Copper Tree
Various institutions, academics, and authors have told me time and time again to keep a journal - and I tried a dozen times. The process always follows the same pattern. I start writing a lot, then a little, then none. It just doesn't work for me. Some people record and reflect through writing, but I choose other ways. Traditionally it is through photography, and the images I took during my time in the Forest serve me as a visual journal of sorts. Some of my images (or journal excerpts) are posted around the site, but in one final cumulative reflection on my experience in the Forest I decided to make a sculpture for my home. I was originally inspired by the dioramas in the Harvard Forest Museum, specifically their wire-made trees. When I got home I acquired similar materials to make my installation and focused my effort to create one large (and more abstract) tree of copper tubing and wire. While it directly relates to the museum, it is also symbolic of my time with friends and forest.
